Our unbelieving friends, like Hitchens, help us fulfill God's will — that we always be ready to give an answer for the reason we believe. I thank God for these whetstones of faith. People like Hitchens remind me that our calling to discipleship is also a calling to a life of reasonable faith and mental rigor.

I only wish we were more effective persuaders.

Good words, Rich. We do well to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. Maybe each of us is prone to ignore at least one of those love ingredients?

You gave me an idea for a blog post on the unspoken parts of being an effective persuader. My list would include (1) being a good listener, (2) possessing good character, (3) caring about your listener.

Of couse we need to know our facts, too. ;-) Thank you for your thoughtful comment!
