Add to this the interesting suggestion of Meredith Kline et al. that the Israelite temple itself is a stylized representation of the cosmos, with precisely proportioned components and the courts depicting the earth, the laver the sea, the altar the mountains (horn and mountain peak are the same Hebrew word), the holy place the heavens lit by the seven-candle lampstand (symbolizing the seven roving heavenly bodies - sun, moon, and five visible planets), and the most holy place being God's sanctuary lit by God himself. Etc.
