Dr. Kaiser, would you agree that in trying to stick with the original author's intent, we sometimes may be led to a different application, particularly given the difference in time and culture?

No, not a different meaning from what the author meant. That is the whole point isn't it? The application of course will differ since we are in differnt times and places, but the principle remains the same from which the application is made. Witness Justice Thomas' way of applying the fourth amendment. OK?
